Our columns are made of 2” diameter PVC pipe. A bell-shaped reducer fitting secured to underneath of the pipe stabilizes the column, and in addition holds set up a mesh display screen. The mesh supports the Turface substrate while also permitting drinking water to drain by gravity. An automated watering program provides a dilute nutrient answer to each column. The watering system is programmed to include smaller amounts of nutrient answer at the substrate surface area 20 times each day. This high frequency helps to keep the tops of the columns moist and ensures delivery of nutrition throughout the column.
